Error Connecting to Tabular Model in Excel

PowerBI uses the ADOMD provider (which is included in the PowerBI install). 

Excel uses the MSOLAP provider installed on your machine.

So you could try downloading and installing the latest MSOLAP provider from here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/analysis-services/client-libraries?view=azure-analysis-services-current 


Also Power BI has Analyze in Excel which will provide the download.
